From Marsha Yeager:
At our last SOS meeting Rosemary Herron presented the idea of having our annual Christmas party/ornament exchange at "Serenitea." Everyone seemed excited at the prospect of doing something different this year. In order to pursue this idea, we need to have a minimum of 10 ladies to "hold" our reservation. For a flat fee of $15 this cute restaurant will serve us ice tea, a meal, and dessert (includes gratuitity). Therefore, I need to know this week (deadline is Sunday, October 28) if you are interested in attending this evening event scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 11 @ 7 p.m. "Serenitea" is in the Sugar Creek shopping center (where Gerland's is located) by the SW Freeway. Visit the website http://www.sereniteatearoom.com/ to learn more about this pleasant restaurant. Please email me (marshayeager@yahoo.com) or call me @
281 431 0700 to respond. Blessings, Marsha

From Josie Sethi:
The October 24th edition of the Fort Bend Sun will feature interviews with SOS members who attended the book event at Serenitea Tea Room on 10/1/2007. Be sure to pick up your copy! BIG HUG, Josie

From Rosemary Herron:
Emily and I paddled in the 4th Annual Texas Dragon Boat Association Gulf Coast International Regatta today, Sunday, Oct.21st. The race was in Clear Lake. Our team is Pink Phurree.
I still feel the sway of the boat!!!! Blessings, Rosemary

Welcome to the October edition of the SOS Porch Light!

As survivors everywhere come together in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we are reminded of our personal committment to the SOS Support Group as well as the community at large. This was most evident at the recent 2007 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure where several members of our unit were spotted throughout the day. Rosemary Herron (in delicious candy-pink wig) held post at the Komen Education Booth, and walkers/runners Melanie Frederick, Emily Snyder and yours truly were greeted by cheers and smiles at the 5K finish line.

While the events and days in October remain plentiful, it is up to each of us as individuals to set our goals and put forth our best effort in lending our support. If each of us contributed a few hours this month to attend just one event, what a huge difference it would make. Remember in helping others, we also help ourselves.

"The strongest oak of the forest is not the one that is protected from
the storm and hidden from the sun. It is the one that stands in the open where it is compelled to struggle for its existence against the winds and rains and the scorching sun."
